Delivery Rate

An email typically goes through various stages during its lifetime. Delivery is the stage where an email has actually been accepted by the service provider and is placed in the mailbox of the recipient. Further, a delivered email can either land in the primary inbox or end up in promotional/spam folders.

The ratio of number of emails successfully delivered to the number of emails successfully sent when expressed as a percentage, is referred to as Delivery Rate.

Delivery Rate = (Total Number of Emails Delivered / Total Number of Emails Sent) * 100

Delivery rate is a ratio metric that is expressed as percentage. It is usually analyzed in the context of email campaigns where emails are sent out to multiple recipients in a specific time frame for a specific purpose.

Delivery rates are generally higher when the email list is maintained well and cleaned periodically. Despite having high delivery rates, whether the email will actually land in the primary inbox or other folders of the mailbox is dependent on recipient's email preferences, sender's domain reputation, the email content etc.
